Dr. Peter Hotez characterizes Ebola as a neglected tropical disease. There were promising vaccinations against this dreaded killer that emerged from U.S. laboratories in 2000 and 2008, he said, but there wasn’t any hope of making money. Drug companies turned their attention elsewhere.

“We could have had a vaccine stockpiled and ready to go” before West Africa started enduring the world’s worst Ebola epidemic, he said.
